The Best Show on Television

After years of living a deliberately television-free existence -- years during which I frequently (and somewhat sanctimoniously) worked the phrase, "I don't even OWN a television" into casual conversation -- I now not only own a television but actually rather like it.

As it turns out, there are some damn good programs on television. Now, perhaps my recent obsession with reruns of Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Office does not quite qualify me as a TV critic, but as far as I'm concerned, there's not a better show on television than HBO's Flight of the Conchords. The dialogue is clever and witty and the humor is hilariously bone-dry.

Oh, and the songs are great. You can even download an EP from iTunes.

I love that show! The episode where Jermaine appeared in Brett's dreams as David Bowie from different periods of Bowie's career was so brilliant I think my mouth was hanging open the whole time I watched it.

Also, I have to tell you that Lamb, the book you recommended, was really good. I loved it. Feel free to recommend books to me anytime.

Glad you liked it!

Did you know they're actually a real band? They played at Bonnaroo. . .

Yes, my sister turned me and SV onto this show our last trip out to NoHo. It's great, but we don't get it. :(

I saw it once before I left. I was a TV-free person when I was Stateside, but now that I am here, I am thinking I might want to get one.

GKL - Maybe try it again?

Lu - Already you're saying "stateside"?! :-)

A friend of mine burned a disc with a few shows. I need to watch it.

I tell people at every opportunity that I don't have a television.

But actually, I own two and my iPod plays videos.

M: Yeah, a couple of friends of mine starting sending me YouTube links of their concerts several months ago.

So I was pretty freakin happy when I heard they had a show.

God bless HBO.

I've just started catching the Conchords and they're pretty hilarious. Time to go back and start at the start.

NONONONO!! don't tell me this! I never owned a TV for ages and ages, then when I got one it was up in th' bedroom and used only as a monitor for the VCR. My eldest daughter was raised not even knowing what a TV was really for-- she thought it only played video tapes.

NOW, thanks to a package deal by BrightNet, we've got CABLE TV to go with our cable internet and digital phone line. IT'S INVADED MY HOME!! DON'T TELL ME I'LL BECOME ONE OF THEM!!!

I've seen a few episodes that were great... and a few that really got on my nerves. It's a hit or miss show. I think I posted about it a month or two ago...
